Bout of Books: Saturday

Not much to report from Saturday, stayed in, read and watched Equilibrium with Jan. And read Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?, which I will likely finish today. It's a bit of a tough book to read, though beautifully written and has its humorous aspects, but still. The family matters can be so complicated.

Today is the last day of Bout of Books 9.0 and even though the readathon has been very successful for me (my page count is now over 1000), I will be happy to get back to more relaxed schedule next week. This is exactly how I felt after the last readathon as well.

The books I read on Saturday: Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson
Pages read on Saturday: 166
Books finished so far: 3
What do my cats think about the books at hand: Robert has really embraced Jeanette Winterson:

Flavour of the day: Coffee.

    1. Thanks! :D But let's be realistic, I've practically done nothing else but work and read this week. As much as I like getting those books ticked off my lists, it's good to know there is life outside as well and I intend to enjoy that a lot more next week :))

  2. Awwwww your cat really does like your books! Mine just likes to kind of flop half on my knee while I'm reading. She knows I can read and fuss at the same time, it's a win-win really. :)

I'm looking forward to reading this one. I bought it on the spot after I saw a brilliant Imagine documentary - a whole hour and a half about her life - which included a trip to Shakespeare and Co in Paris (the bookshop that saved her life) and also some reading aloud from her autobiography during her book tour. I like her!

    1. See, my cats don't come on my lap/knee when reading, though that would be nice :) But Robert likes sleeping on books indeed, which is kinda cute (can call him "The Intelligent Cat").

It was the first book by Jeanette Winterson I read (though I remember studying something of hers in uni... which was a loooong time ago) and definitely a positive experience - it's quite a powerful book. I do recommend it.

  3. Great results from Bout of Books! I've never participated in a read-a-thon, but am considering doing so at some point this year. I think I like the read-a-thons that take place over 24hrs rather than across several days though.

    1. Thanks, Melissa! I've only taken part in one 24-h readathon and it was a disaster because I was away at friends' most of the time (and hungover in the morning...), so I can't adequately assess. But they are so different, I think I am more of low-pressure person in that I can't really read 24 hours in a row (or close to it). Still, I will attempt the next 24-h readathon as well when it comes around :)

Congrats on finishing three books during a week, it seems like your read-a-thon was a success :)

    1. Thanks, Sam, it's been a very successful reading week, but truth be told I am not sad that it's Sunday evening now and I can take things easier as of tomorrow :) I've finished four books by now, which is even more than I aimed for, so I am very happy with the result.

  6. I love how your cat is also enjoying your books. You chose one in this post that is rather thorny for a read-a-thon; I try to stick to straight fiction, because I don't want to get too tangled up! Great job so far!
