[Dewey's]: Book Jenga Challenge

This is my favourite challenge, and the only one I will be taking part of this time around (I wasn't planning to do any, but I cannot resist a little bit of book architecture...)

The challenge is hosted by Ellie at Curiosity killed the bookworm, go check it out if you like, there is time to take part until the end of the readathon.

Here's my attempt from last year - I can definitely see some progress.

I was quite ambitious this time around and used 24 books altogether, making sure I don't double any (directly on top of each other or standing with whole covers touching). The first attempt failed before I could take a photo - there was a major collapse of books that led Robert to flee under the bed. The second attempt was a lot better, though (key ingredient - I removed that slippery dust jacket from Bernadette - it's all in details, people). Jan helped as well (mostly by leading the cat troops) and all in all we had a lot of fun building the book tower.

Here's my official entry. All nice and neat.

This is where it all started going horribly wrong...
Let's take a moment to admire how cat-resistant
this book tower is.

Aand the collapse of the mighty fort...

  2. HA! Not only is your tower amazing, but awwww, poor kitties at the end there. Why do cats ALWAYS have to interfere when it comes to carefully-balanced stacks of books? Even normal ones? A paw here, a chin there, and BOOM. Avalanche. >:)

    1. So true :) Whenever there is something that could possibly fall over, it is sure to do so with a help of a feline.

    1. Thanks a lot :) Kitties were very cute indeed, trying to figure out what's this monstrosity that suddenly rose in the middle of living room :)

  4. Impressive! I'm sure your kitties thought you were building a toy just for them...until it collapsed, at least... then it wasn't so fun anymore!

    1. Actually, we had to lure cats there with a toy because after my first tower attempt collapsed, it made a lot of noise and everyone fled. I wanted to see how fast they can destroy the tower, when given a chance :)

    1. Thanks! Constructing big book house actually takes a bit of consideration and swapping books and removing dust jackets etc :)

  6. THIS IS FABULOUS. I'm really bummed I missed the 24-hr readathon. Also, it so made me smile to see the Scott Lynch books in there :)

    1. With your schedule lately I wouldn't had even given a thought to 24-hour readathon :) Hehe took me like 3 mins to find Scott Lynch books but then I remembered I thought they would make a great balancing bricks in the middle :)
